Allure Magazine on QVC - March 7

Kristin Perrotta, the Beauty Editor of one of my favorite beauty magazines, Allure, will be on QVC on Tuesday, March 7 to talk about - what else? - beauty products. She tested every beauty product that QVC carries and will tell you her top picks. The episode airs at 9 a.m.

Also, check out Lindsay Lohan on the cover of the March issue of Allure. Lindsay dished out HELLA GOOD products at her 19th birthday party last year, and got treated to a Birthday Suit body wash and Sexy Mo Fo bath scrubby. I think she looks fab with her dark hair.

CARGO Celebrity Lipstick - CeCe

CARGO jonied with a group of celebrities to create their signature color in an effort to raise money for The Children's Miracle Network, a non-profit that raises money for 170 children's hospitals around the United States. For every lipstick sold, $2 will be donated to the charity.

My absolute favorite is CeCe (pictured) created by Courteney Cox. The color is a sheer purplish-berry color that shimmers beautifully. You can buy it at beauty.com and Sephora.

For a complete list of the lipstick colors and the celebrity who created them, visit the CARGO website.

Gwyneth Paltrow's Lips in 1998

The 1998 movie "A Perfect Murder" was less than memorable, but I was forced to remember it when I happened across it recently at the video store. I, of course, bypassed it, but I couldn't help but think about Gwyneth Paltrow's lips (I secretly try not to think about Gwyneth being married to Michael Douglas in the movie - who I believe babysat her when she was a child).

Her perfect red lips came courtesy of Laura Mercier's lipstick in pink grape., which surprisingly doesn't look so red in the tube. More pinkish.

Beauty Tip #4 - Washing Your Hair

Unless you have incredibly oily hair or you are heavy on the styling products, wash your hair every other day. When you wash your hair, add just a little shampoo to your roots. As you lather and rinse, the shampoo works its way to the ends and cleans them. When conditioning, do just the opposite - just add conditioner to the ends, unless you have very dry hair then go ahead and add to the entire length.

If you have long hair that tangles easily, while the conditioner is in your hair, gently comb your hair with a wide-tooth comb. It works like a charm.

My Recent Sephora Trip

I recently dropped by the Sephora in Santa Monica on Third Street. I love visiting Sephora because I get to play with the make-up, and although I usually leave with more make-up on than a hooker on Sunset Blvd., I at least leave content.

I really needed a light-weight tinted lip balm that was easy to wear. A friend recommended Tarte's 24/7 Lip Sheers. It comes in a pretty, irridescent lavender-pink Chapstick-type container which makes it super easy to put on. The color stays put and it makes my lips feel moisturized, although I will admit, I am very aware I have lips when I wear it because it does feel just a little bit heavy. Although, I don't mind the heaviness since in the winter my lips do need extra-conditioning. They come in 11 shades (I got Tuesday, a sheer plum color). According to the Tarte website, you can use the lip sheer as a sheer blush.

I also treated myself to a Urban Decay's Asphyxia eye shadow, which is such a pretty lavenderish blue color. I love it. What I love about Urban Decay's eye shadows is that they go on strong and have lasting power. I was really torn between Asphyxia and Grifter, a lavender eyeshadow with tons of silver glitter. It was really pretty, but it made my eyes so sparkly that I looked like I was ready to go to a disco at one in the afternoon. One of my all-time favorite eye shadows is Chopper, also by Urban Decay. It's a bronze-y, metallic color that is just so flattering.

My only beef with the Sephora website is that the color swatches don't look quite like the product's color. However, I've found if you do a live chat with a Sephora specialist, s/he will describe the color to you as best they can so you can get a good idea. Worse comes to worse, if you get it and you don't like it, you can easily return it (return shipment is on them) or take it to your nearest Sephora store.

Added bonus, if you're going to shop Sephora online, they currently have a special for free shipping, free gift wrapping and 3 free samples with any order over $75.

Is There A Sex Offender Near You?

Someone passed this along and I thought it was worth while looking at. If you plug in your street address, it shows you names and photos of sex offenders living near you:

Family Watch Dog

Look for the icon of the house that pops up on the map. That's your house, and the red, green and yellow boxes are the sex offenders. Click on the boxes for more information. Scary stuff.

Beauty Tip #3 - Drying Your Face

Never rub your face dry with a towel. After you wash your face, gently pat your face dry. Then, while the skin is still moist, apply a moisturizer that's suitable for your skin type.

Pretty Things

Sometimes beauty is simply surrounding yourself with pretty things. When entertaining, I think these cute hostess aprons are spot on. Very cool, pretty and stylish. These leaf notecards are so vibrant and colorful that they make me want to write long beautiful notes to friends, instead of short, impersonal emails. This cowry shell belt makes me wish I had a 22-inch waist and a belly ring. This love conquers all scarf shows you're both an intellectual and a romantic. Who doesn't look glamourous wearing a kanzashi tiger lily hair pin? I so want this little chest covered with Mexican posters for my bedroom. This ruffled poppy pin and peony knit flower will brighten up any shirt or sweater. These pouches are such a pretty way to house your iPod. I love cupcakes and I think these sachets are such a cute way to scent the house. Even your little dog can look pretty with these sparkling collars. Nothing is prettier than being pretty in pink - I just love this necklace (but it's one of a kind, so if it gets sold, it's gone). And who says adults can be the only ones who can get pretty things? This princess overalls that you can get customized with your daughter's name and birthstone is just too cute - and I love the magic wand on the butt!

Neutrogena Advanced Solutions - Acne Mark Fading Peel

I think when I was around 8, there was a high # of mosquitoes that summer. I think I counted 40 - FORTY! - bites on my legs. Of coursed I scratched all of them in a crazy frenzy that summer, and I had little dark marks all over my legs. My grandmother called me "Leopard Legs" that summer. Luckily, I was only 8 and didn't care that I had spotted legs.

So, when I get a pimple no matter how gingerly I care for it, it never fails to leave a mark. A small dark mark that seems to take forever before it fades away. Why, oh why, couldn't I have been born with my mother's awesome skin? She gets a pimple, it fades with no evidence it was ever there. Although I have now controlled my break-outs, I still get them and I fear for the mark they'll leave. Like recently, I had one right between the eyebrows and it looked like a Bindhi or a bull's eye.

So, imagine my utter joy that Neutrogena has come out with an acne peel to fade post-acne marks! Has anyone tried it? It also helps with existing acne. I plan on buying it. I will let you know if it's worth the money. I hope it is!

Dance Dance Revolution

I have decided to dance my way to thinness. I tell this to my friends and they usually pipe in with, "I want to dance my way to thinness, too." My latest obsession is Dance Dance Revolution. It originated in Japan, and you've probably seen it. It's an arcade game where fast, furious music plays and you have to follow the arrows on how to move your feet. It turns out that the game is like a high impact aerobic workout. This one guy lost 150 pounds doing it.

The best part is that you don't feel like you're working out. You're so involved in the game that you forget it's exercise. Lord knows I need to forget it's exercise. Currently, my exercise consists of walking up 8 floors of a building twice a day. I think I would prefer dancing.

It's now available as a game on an XBox or a PS2 (which I recently got as a Christmas gift). I am currently shopping around for floor pads and a game at a good price. I'm finding around $60 plus tax is about average. Then I plan to dance, dance, dance and get this big butt movin'.

Having An Ugly Day

I'm having one of those mornings where no matter what I put on or what I do to my face, I feel pretty darn ugly. It's like a bad hair day, but so much worse. It's a bad whole body day. Days like this I'm susceptible to advertising, especially as I flip through my latest Allure magazine I am finding myself ooh-ing and ahh-ing at all the advertisements that promise to lift, calm, soothe, beautify, [fill in adjective].

A lot of bath and beauty brick and mortar stores prey on women feeling vulnerable about their looks. I used to know a girl who worked at a bath store where the walls were covered with mirrors. Why? She was told by management that some days women felt really ugly (like me today) and seeing themselves in the mirror will get them to buy, buy, buy. Especially, they told her, on rainy days when women have wet, limp hair and smudgy make-up. If our online business ever made it to brick and mortar status, I will not have walls of mirrors. I want women to buy our products because they like how the product smells and how it makes their skin feel.

I am so glad I am feeling too fat and too ugly to even leave the house. Today is a hide-in-the-house kind of day. If I did venture out, I'd be afraid of what I'd return home with...bags filled with promises and an empty wallet.
